How to Handle Abnormal Conditions of a Bag Filter

Abnormal Condition Handling

  • Filter bag blockage (excessive pressure drop / reduced flow):
Stop the machine immediately and replace the filter bag.
Do not forcibly increase pressure to continue operation, as this may cause deformation of the filter housing.

  • Turbid filtrate (filter bag damage):
Immediately close the inlet and outlet valves, drain the material inside the filter housing, replace the damaged filter bag, and rinse the housing with clean water before restarting.

  • Leakage (from top cover or piping connections):
After shutting down and releasing pressure, check whether the sealing ring is misaligned or damaged, or if any bolts are loose. Repair or replace as needed before restarting.

  • Sudden pressure rise (pipeline blockage):
Immediately close the inlet valve and open the drain valve to empty the material.
Check for any blockages in the pipeline (such as stuck valves or scale buildup) and clean them before restarting.

Shutdown Procedure

Key Principle: Depressurize and Drain to Avoid Material Residue

Follow the sequence “Close Inlet → Depressurize → Close Outlet → Drain” to prevent pressure shocks or material corrosion inside the equipment.

  1. Close Inlet Valve:
Slowly close the inlet valve to stop material flow into the system.

  2. Depressurize:
Open the air vent valve to release internal pressure until the gauge reads 0 MPa (needle returns to zero), ensuring safe disassembly.

  3. Close Outlet Valve:
Once pressure is fully released, close the outlet valve.

  4. Drain Residual Material:
Open the drain valve to discharge any remaining material inside the housing.
If the material tends to solidify, flush the housing with clean water or solvent to prevent pipeline blockage.

  5. Equipment Cleaning:
For long-term shutdowns (over 7 days), remove the top cover and filter bag, rinse the housing and support basket with clean water, dry thoroughly, and seal properly to prevent internal rusting.
