How to Operate a Bag Filter

A bag filter is a highly efficient filtration device that removes impurities from fluids through filter bags. It is widely used in industries such as chemicals, food processing, water treatment, and pharmaceuticals.

Its operating procedures must follow the logical sequence of “Preparation – Start-up – Operation Monitoring – Shutdown – Maintenance”, ensuring safe and stable performance while extending the service life of the filter bags. The detailed procedures are as follows:

I. Pre-Operation Preparation

(Objective: eliminate potential equipment risks and confirm material compatibility)

Before start-up, conduct a comprehensive inspection of the equipment, pipelines, and materials to avoid issues such as leakage or filter bag damage during operation.

1. Filter Bag Inspection

  • Confirm that the filter bag specifications (e.g., material, precision) meet the filtration requirements.
Example: For food-grade liquids, use a 304 stainless steel support mesh with food-grade nylon filter bags.

  • Ensure the filter bag is free of damage or creases. When installed, it must fully adhere to the support mesh without misalignment.

2. Seal Inspection

  • Check the sealing ring between the cover and housing to confirm it is free from aging, deformation, or scratches. Replace if necessary to prevent leakage or fluid bypass during filtration.

3. Instrument Calibration

  • Verify that pressure gauges and flow meters are calibrated (within the validity period), the pointer returns to zero, and there is no jamming.

  • Ensure the safety valve (if applicable) is rated at or below the maximum allowable pressure of the equipment.

4. Structural Inspection

  • Ensure the filter housing is free of residual impurities or foreign matter.

  • Confirm that the support mesh (or basket) shows no signs of deformation or corrosion.

  • Verify that cover bolts or clamps are properly secured.
